Sheteka Alexander
Founder of G.I.R.L.S. — Girls In Real Life Situations, Sheteka Alexander is transforming the lessons, challenges and experiences of her own life into a mission to help young women feel supported, recognize their potential and build stronger foundations for their futures.
“I want to create a safe and supportive environment where young women feel heard, valued, empowered, and confident in seeking help when they need it.”
Experience
Became
Purpose.
Sheteka Alexander understands that life's challenges can shape us — but they do not have to define our future.
Raised in a two-parent household by two hardworking parents, Sheteka learned early the importance of hard work, perseverance and personal responsibility. Those values became an important foundation throughout her life.
Becoming a teen parent gave Sheteka an early understanding of the challenges that come with navigating adulthood and motherhood at a young age, while also strengthening her appreciation for the values her parents had taught her.
Throughout her life, she recognized the importance of positive role models, mentorship and guidance for young people. She also saw how easily young women can feel lost, unsupported or uncertain about their futures when that support is missing.
Those experiences planted the seed for an organization that could provide encouragement, direction and meaningful support during the real-life situations young women encounter.
Turning Real-Life Situations Into Real Support.
The heart of G.I.R.L.S. was shaped by experiences that taught Sheteka the importance of having someone beside you when life becomes difficult.
A Foundation of Strong Values
Hard work, perseverance and personal responsibility were values Sheteka learned from her parents and carried with her into adulthood.
Becoming a Young Mother
Teen motherhood gave Sheteka firsthand insight into the responsibilities, uncertainty and difficult decisions young women may encounter.
The Importance of Guidance
Her experiences reinforced the value of mentors, positive role models and people willing to provide encouragement, direction and support.
Navigating Grief & Trauma
Personal loss gave Sheteka a deeper understanding of what it means to experience difficult emotions while feeling as though you must carry them alone.
Finding Purpose in Experience
Difficult chapters became part of a larger vision: using what she had learned to help another young woman navigate her own journey.
Creating G.I.R.L.S.
That vision became Girls In Real Life Situations — an organization designed to help young women feel heard, supported, prepared and empowered.
No Young Woman Should Have to Face Life's Hardest Moments Alone.
One of the most profound experiences of Sheteka's life was losing her firstborn son to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Experiencing this heartbreaking loss as a young adult brought her closer to her children while requiring her to navigate significant grief and trauma, often feeling as though she had to face those challenges on her own.
That experience profoundly shaped her perspective and strengthened her desire to ensure that no young woman ever feels she has to navigate a traumatic or difficult experience alone.
Sheteka wants young women to know that they deserve to be heard, valued and supported — and that seeking help when life becomes difficult is something they should feel confident doing.

Purpose That Reaches Beyond the Organization.
Sheteka's commitment to helping others has also become part of a larger family story.
Her son, Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter, partnered with G.I.R.L.S. in 2026 as part of a charitable initiative connected to cancer awareness and support for cancer treatment.
Inspired by a deeply personal connection to cancer, Arion turned his performance on the football field into an opportunity to raise awareness and give back through a season-long charitable pledge.
It reflects a principle at the heart of G.I.R.L.S.: even life's difficult situations can become opportunities to make a difference in someone else's life.
“Through G.I.R.L.S., my goal is to turn my personal experiences into purpose by providing mentorship, personalized coaching, and support that helps young women overcome challenges, recognize their potential, and build a strong foundation for their future.”
